Located on the 26th floor of The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo, the Chinese restaurant China Shadow presents the Chinese New Year Course, available for a limited time from February 1 to February 28, in celebration of the Lunar New Year.

In Chinese culture, Lunar New Year is the most important festival of the year—a time to gather with family and loved ones, share auspicious dishes, and wish for happiness, prosperity, and good health. Inspired by this rich tradition, the course reinterprets celebratory Chinese cuisine through China Shadow’s signature modern style.

From appetizers to main courses and dessert, each dish incorporates symbolic ingredients and cooking techniques that convey good fortune and festive wishes, offering a refined and vibrant dining experience unique to the Lunar New Year.

Eight-Treasure Mala Tang to Welcome the New Year

Inspired by the auspicious “Eight Treasures” of Chinese tradition, this China Shadow signature mala tang is crafted with eight carefully selected ingredients. The lingering heat of Sichuan peppercorn and chilli enhances the depth of flavour, creating a richly satisfying dish. Crab claws, prawns, squid, fish roe dumplings, and thick glass noodles are gently topped with yuba, delivering a layered, textural experience. Perfectly paired with Chinese desserts, this recommended dish offers a vibrant taste of celebration for the New Year.
